Joint staff training event Brussels (September 2017)
A joint staff training event was organized in Brussels Belgium, from 11 September 2017 until 15 September 2017. The event brought together social workers, psychologists, cultural mediators, lawyers active in the field of refugees assistance, from Belgium, Germany, Romania, Spain, Sweden.
The host of this event, Caritas International Belgium, proposed to the debate specific approaches and strategies used for a more efficient and faster integration of refugees into the local community and the European community as a whole. The specialists from the five partner countries, gathered at the event, discussed and analyzed models of good practice and sought to find a unitary structure of intervention to integrate persons who have obtained an international form of protection. Thus, from a multidisciplinary perspective, the specialists from the fields of mental health, social assistance, legal and educational services discussed issues regarding the usefulness of involvement of local volunteers in the integration of refugees and the role of cultural mediators, the importance of psychological assistance services in the context of integration, strategies to protect unaccompanied minors and their integration into the educational environment, methods of combating hate speech.
